What are your sequence settings If you're editing in an NTSC DV sequence, your graphics will look awful no matter what. Try ProRes 422 instead.

This doesn't answer the problem, but an FYI. I just had to do a recapture of P2 material backed up on a hard drive. Although the method recommended by those here MOSTLY worked, there were issues with

Kevin, I am confused then. I think that you are saying that film it in 1080i for the best resolution. I think that you are also saying 720p is actually shot at 1280 and 1080p and then down converted.
