Check on your video driver to see if there is an update. It may not be the direct reason for the crashes but it is a great place to start. Also check the state of your GPU acceleration and try to play

I don't have direct experience with Canon MXF files but I know that I've been able to use Panasonic MXF without any difficulties. Just dropped on the timeline and created videos combined w MOV and MP4

I have found that there is no need to select the audio tracks. The video tracks get moved to complied to one track for you to switch back and forth between camera tracks while the audio tracks remain
