the simple answer is no, you can do colors per polygon but not gradients. You'd have to do gradients in AI itself

Another option is FreeForm V2. Same features as the bundled version (Digieffects FreeForm - we did that too). BUT FreeForm V2 is 2 to 8 times faster than the bundled version(depending on your system).
