I don't know the "best" way but I'll tell you how I've done it. Compressing into h.264 seems crazy, as you're going into a highly compressed format only to then go into another highly compressed forma

I just downloaded a couple songs from ITunes, which I imported into an FCP project. They are listed as m4p songs. They import okay and I can view it in the viewer, but there's no audio and no levels.

Again, you are wrong. There is NOTHING in the law that prevents you from using a copyrighted song in a video production in and of itself. It depends on what you do with that video, if and how you dist
