That's just how it is. It's AI. Many times it produces bad rendering. Just change the rotation of the object a tad and eventually it should correct itself. For best results use a 3D program or try Pat

Well, that's even simpler. You do a color trace. That will preserve the transparency. Then you export it to PS and change it to B&W.
