Using the highest quality master is always your best choice, yes. I.e. the ProRes. I simply use either FCP's built in DVD output or iDVD if I need more options. Both of which will compress the master

Here is what I am doing for backup (Thanks to all who helped me by posting their thoughts and ideas). The data backup found in FCPX preferences is on my iMac's hard drive (takes up very little space).

2 HPX 170 questions

1) when I shoot 1080i 60 and then output it as an H264 file it comes out as 29.67 fps. Shouldn't is be 60 fps as I have the settings on FCP to look at the first clip and set that as the frame rate 2)

1080i 60i is 60 fields per second or 29.97 FPS. 1080i 30p is 29.97 FPS. The 170 is not that great in low light, you gotta bump up the gain, keep the shutter at 1 60. Chris

I fixed it. I used AppCleaner to make sure I got rid of all the iZotope files, then when I booted FCPX 10.0.9 it gave me the attached message. I then reinstalled 10.1 and it opened right up... I must

Do think of it in terms of file size but rather in mb per sec. This is your bitrate and that's important to know because it's adjusted according to the length of your piece.
