Well a year later... and I'm back with same issues. After updating to HighSierra (I had to, to get a 10Gb adapter to work) I've gone back to choppy hopeless playback in Premiere. And my 2012 iMac happ

ok got it. I didn't realise that zaxwerks shows layers that are turned off in illustrator. So deleting those revealed the 'fixed' layer.
