I use a simple naming convention of adding 1.0 to the end of my timeline name for first round, 2.0 for second round, etc. And if by chance I have to make a fix mid-round I change the suffix to 1.1, 2.

Since you're about to embark on upgrading your raid you might want to think about going with Raid10 instead of Raid5. You would lose half of your raid to mirroring but you would also have a safer raid
