People still shoot SD :) Yes.....HD has more info within the frame making the encoders job much easier and efficient. Unless it's for some broadcast specs, there really no other reason I can think of

No.....DVD authoring takes time. With a little planning and template set up in encore or DVDSP, it shouldn't be that mind numbing ;)

It can be done with tools like After Edit and a number of PC DVD editing tools but unless you know the ins and outs of the DVD spec you're going to screw things up. I did something like this long ago

If youre watching it interlaced, then its probably a moire effects from interlacing. Smaller objects and certain patterns will cause this.

There are PC tools like AVISnyth which will do just as good a job....and free. Not sure if this is strictly a tape to tape conversion If so then you might go in that direction

You have progressive video so just confirm it to 23.98 using a tool like Cinema Tools. Timcodes are just numbers

FCP 7 will be used for several years down the road as well. I say learn and know X but dont rely on it getting you work. If it takes off in the professional world you'll be ready.

Preview mode is not the real world. DVD was not meant to have button sounds. What your doing will often be ackward since it must go through a set of abstraction layer code plus the laser must mechanic

Encore doesn't come anywhere close to DVDSP in functionlity. The only option is keep using DVDSP or head over to PC and buy DVD Lab or Scenarist.

Just a couple corrections: CBR vs VBR has nothing to do with discs skipping. If your bitrates are low enough and you avoid those bitrate spikes that VBR introduces you're fine either way. Also...ALL p
