Thanks for the Disk Warrior tip, guys. Dead RAID 0 HD, so Disk Utility told me... and a fair bit of work in progress unbacked up still. So I paid my $99 and took the chance, based on your good advice.
Linking source text in text layers to an external .txt file

I have never posted online, because I always search everything on the internet and find the answers I need thanks to all of you! However because of maybe a learning curve thing, the question I have ma

I've never tried anything like that, so I don't know. I think the structure that AE uses to write a file is a closed book. Check out this link... it has the details about most of the system level stuf
Expression Oddity - not reading keyframes across compositions.

Hi all. I will try my best to explain my problem. In one composition I have a layer with some Slider Controls. In another composition I have some expressions that refer to these Slider Controls. It al

You've probably time offset the layer in the top comp. try: L = comp("top comp").layer("layer whatever"); the layer with this comp as source T = time + L.startTime; this.position = L.position.valueAtT

Disabling a tag

Thanks, Randy. Strange that texture tags don't have them though. Although I guess you can override a tag with something else. -B. vfx.benrollason.com

Hi All, This may be a dumb question, but is there a shortcut, like U that shows all animating keyframes without showing expressions -Ben.
Re: shortcut U

Thanks for that Todd. I didn't know that. But having tried it out, I realised it's not quite what I'm looking for. What I wanted was a shortcut that shows the keyframes, but not the expressions on the
copying just specular settings

Is there a simple way to copy, for instance, the specular settings from one material and paste it into the specular settings of another one It would be a nice time-saver. -Ben. vfx.benrollason.com

aligning camera to an object

separate light pass

Re: separate light pass

I think it's not possible, unless you were to do the whole thing in separate passes. It's a shame though, as it would be great to render the whole scene minus 1 light, then render that light as a sepa
Getting a layer's children?

I generally find it's best to feel your way with time-remapping footage. The graph isn't as useful as say with position or scale, because you need to multiply the speed of the time remap by the speed

Layer re-order based on z position

Re: Layer re-order based on z position

It would be a job for a script if anything, not an expression, but I don't know of one. Can you not just avoid putting 2D layers in between 3D layers. This breaks the 3D space at that point. For the A

This can also happen if you have a particular precomp used in several different compositions with different time offsets. After Effects can't synchronise the precomp with all instances of itself. Even
Animating Lens Blur
by ben rollason 10 years ago
Hi there, I've just come back to an age old problem.... Namely animating the Lens Blur effect. However you do it; animating the depth matte, animating the aperture size, 8-bit, 32-bit.... whatever....
Re: Animating Lens Blur
by ben rollason 10 years ago
I've tried most things. At higher blur values, the blur moves in discreet steps... it will hold the same frame for four or five frames and then change. And this regardless of whether you use keyframes
Quicktime gamma issues: Users Revolt!

I haven't tried it, but it looks like you might be changing too soon. Try your function this way: function doRotate(p, a) { rotates a point p, angle a around the origin 0,0 x0 = p 0 ; y0 = p 1 ; x = x
