It's h.264 only, so it doesn't sound like you would benefit much from having it. I'm still troubleshooting it on my system, which may in itself not be a ringing endorsement, but it's let me drop data

I agree with Arnie that this probably won't look "right" unless it's done in a 3D app. If you're looking to do it in Motion I would try a replicator. Make your "pearl" with a highlight toward one side

Just because your video equipment is HDV doesn't mean that you have to edit HDV. Assuming you have the drive space (SATA has gotten so cheap) you could capture as DVCPro HD as avoid the many pitfalls
