Is there a way to get the current effects name?
by Jon Smith 1 month ago
Hello everyone... I'm trying to get the name of the current effect that I'm writing an expression in. Something like thisEffect.name. Is there a way to do this Thanks!

Just thinking, you might actually want something else. This will also work for a property that is an immediate child of the effect: thisProperty.propertyGroup(1).name; In general thisProperty is the c
Whats the extendscript syntax for adding expression on a separated dimensions position?
by Tal Arbiv 1 month ago
this only works on unified position array: layer.transform.position.expression =expr; it was something like these (but its not): layer.transform.positionX.expression =expr; layer.transform.position 0
Re: Whats the extendscript syntax for adding expression on a separated dimensions position?

This works: layer.transform.xPosition.expression =expr; or layer.transform.property("ADBE Position_0").expression =expr; (same with x y z and 0 1 2). Xavier

Text Multiline Wiggle Expression
by wyclef chron 1 month ago
Hey, I have 3 lines of source text I'd like to wiggle line by line. I've got the entire block of text wiggling using wiggle(.3,2) but want each line to wiggle and not the entire block. How would I do
Re: Text Multiline Wiggle Expression

Using an animator with a wiggly selector would probably be the easiest way. In the text layer: Choose Animate Position, it creates a Range Selector and a Position property. Remove the Range Selector b
Wiggle uniform scale of a flipped/non squared ratio layer
by Tal Arbiv 2 months ago
I want to wiggle a layer with scale aspect like -23,111 or 23,111 and wiggle keeping the ratio. (like if it was parented to a null that is wiggled) of course when i use the 0 on both axis the result i
Re: Wiggle uniform scale of a flipped/non squared ratio layer

Hum, seems that i missread the question. The above wiggles by the same amount to scale 0 and scale 1 , but does not preserve the ratio. This should be better: w = wiggle(1,5); if (value 0 ===0){ 0, w

Ae wiggle expression jumps after start from specific time.

Re: Ae wiggle expression jumps after start from specific time.

You can transition smoothly between the two by using a linear or ease function: timeToStart = 3; transitionDur = 1; freq = 1.5; maxAmount = 30; amount = easeIn(time, timeToStart, timeToStart+transitio
Script to show/hide some layers

Re: Script to show/hide some layers

Yes it's possible, scripts are designed exactly for this kind of things. You need to loop throw all project items, identify those that are compositions, then for each comp loop again over all layers,

ScriptUI - NewPath() question?

Re: ScriptUI - NewPath() question?

The path properties are not exposed to scripting apparently. You need to use the moveTo() and lineTo() methods: var g = grp.graphics; var strokePen = g.newPen( g.PenType.SOLID_COLOR, 1, 1, 1, 1 ,2); g
Creating a Dropdown Menu Expression Control Plugin.

I frequently find that I could use a definable dropdown menu to control expressions. I would love to create a custom effect that would create dropdown menus in the same way we can create slider contro
Re: Creating a Dropdown Menu Expression Control Plugin.

It's not possible. Dropdowns parameters only have a numerical value (an integer) and the text displayed cannot be retrieved by an expression, nor script. That behaviour is not specific to custom effec
Finding the edges of text and shape layers just got a lot easier

With the latest AE release (CC 2014.2) expressions now have a long-awaited feature that allows them to find the edges of text and shape layers without having to do the sampleImage() hack. It's sourceR

Re: Remove all keyframes by script

Maybe have the script select all keys on the property, then delete. You could call delete as a menu command. Then you wouldn't have to loop.

Is there anyway to speed up or slow down the amont of 'easing' in the 'easeIn' expressions I'd like to really increase the amount of easing. Almost a stall at the beginning.

If what you are after is expressions and not graph editor, there is this script:http: aescripts.com ease-and-wizz . It has a good collection of ease functions other than the AE default ones. But i'm n

Assuming that : 1- your script has already identified the layer (let's call it theLayer), 2- your script has a string variable (called say expr) that contains the expression text, you can go on like t

CPU usage in a script process
