Baking with GI Lighting
by Tyler Joynt 4 years ago
I have a VERY simple scene. Basically a box and a helix in a sweep nurb. I am recreating a L3 that was done in Photoshop in C4D. It needs to be baked so I can export it for a realtime 3D engine (think
A little Xpresso noob problem translating 0-100% to rotation values
by Tyler Joynt 5 years ago
THere's probably another way to do this, but this is how i'm trying to do it. I have object, and my camera is just flying around it 360 degrees. yes, I could keyframe it, but i want to be able to chan

You need to use a Range Mapper Node inside Xpresso, Range Mapper translate a unit to another, lets say for example from Percentage to degrees. Good Luck Imagination is the best tool...
Resolve Renders "splotchy"/blocky frames
by Tyler Joynt 5 years ago
Color correcting some different footage today, and noticed that it messed up some frames. It's not even frames that are wildly different or anything. This example is from BM Pocket Camera, but it also

I'm sure someone could help you, if you would share your system configuration (hardware, and software)
Resolve not reading footage AR properly
by Tyler Joynt 5 years ago
I've never really quite gotten a great workflow between Premiere and Resolve anyway, but had sorta gotten it to work. RIght now I have a Premiere sequence with 33 different clips in it. I even rendere
Cut up logged clips into individual clips?
by Tyler Joynt 5 years ago
We get huge 400-500GB 3 hour files, and then those are logged into 50-100 different clips. It's really a pain to have the load the whole 500GB file into Premiere just to get a 15 second clip. Is there

Thanks. Not really sure how to send a log file, and a screenshot would just be of the right click dialog.Theres no error or anything, it just doesn't work. When Send to Premiere worked, it still didn'
Get absolute transform values? (3D parented objects)
by Tyler Joynt 6 years ago
I'm building a pretty simple animation, but I know I could use this in other places too. Basically its a 3x3 grid of rectangles that rotate in 3D space and reveal something else on the other side. But

EDL's from Premiere Pro (6 & cc) unusable in Resolve...?
by Francois Driessen 6 years ago
Hi there, guys. I sincerely hope someone can help me get to the bottom of this. Because, as much as I love resolve, I'm spending more time trying to conform than grading... I'm slowly coming to the op
Re: EDL's from Premiere Pro (6 & cc) unusable in Resolve...?

I've had the same issue with FS700 footage. We already use ClipWrap for other purposes, but Resolve does NOT work in RT with these at all. i'm in sorta the same boat as you. I have lots of varied sour
Premiere Pro to Davinci/Render or Copy Clips from Sequence
by Tyler Joynt 6 years ago
This is mainly a question of work flow from PP CS6 (soon to get CC) to DaVinci and back. I've read everything I can find online, and am still having issues. The obvious way is XML. I use this to open

Export an EDL of your timeline and use that as a cut list with the ProRes file in Resolve. It'll do what you're trying to achieve with your ProRes + XML method. Alex Elkins @postbluetv www.postblue.tv
Parent object to a parented Null inside another comp?
by Tyler Joynt 7 years ago
Building a reallly simple rig, but for certain reasons I need to parent an object (that the person will "hold", in this case a clipboard) to a null inside another comp, where the hand lies. I tried at
Re: Parent object to a parented Null inside another comp?

It probably depends on the relationship between the comp with the parented null and the other comp, but you're going to need to use layer space transforms. See if this gets you any closer: L = comp("P
MC5 on Mac consolidate to NTFS drive

I'm running MC5 on my MacBook Pro, and have a project and footage on an external NTFS drive. I can do everything BUT consolidate. I have a couple P2 cards of footage that needs to be consolidated, but
Re: MC5 on Mac consolidate to NTFS drive

I've had no problems with it, and haven't noticed any slowness about it. I have a Lacie Rugged 7200rpm 500GB drive that I use via FW800 almost daily doing stuff mostly in AE, but also in Premiere, and
Green Screen keying problems
by Tyler Joynt 9 years ago
We shoot on Panasonic HPX-500 cameras, but a couple of our producers love the "SPARK" scene file mode, which basically just blows the footage out so they dont have to touch it in post. It's helpful wh

I think we've all been in this situation, and it sucks. I can't see your footage, so I can't say anything too specific, but here are a few tricks I've been able to use in the past. These really depend
Render Particular layers ONLY, while leaving the effects of others on those layers.

Is it possible to render out particular layers (text in this case), keeping the effects that all other aspects have on it (lighting sky softboxes etc.) and make all other areas of the still render on

I believe what you want is just to put a Compositing Tag on everything that you dont want and uncheck "Seen By Camera"
Best workflow between Avid (PC)/After Effects (PC & Mac) and Editshare

At my job, we are strictly PC with the exception of my personal MacBook Pro that I use (along with a Dell T7700 workstation) for graphics. We use an Editshare system for all of our files, and it works

I used the Animation codec for years, but the slow import export times in HD led me to look at other options. So I downloaded the Avid DnxHD codecs and have been very pleased with quality and speed. A
