David, a hard drive's shelf is at best 3 years, provided you spin it up once a year to ensure it's still working. An LTO's shelf life is 30 years, slightly more useful for archiving media.

You don't have much choice as the AG-HMC150P records in AVCHD. The best editing codec for FCP is Pro Res, you shouldn't need to worry about ProRes HQ as AVCHD maxes out at 24Mbps.

Apologies for the slight gibberish; We used to have this problem a lot and eventually identified it as the wrong driver, installing the NDD driver solved it.
