Actually, it won't be slower, because a Thunderbolt version of that drive wouldn't be faster. A 1 or 2 spindle solution (depending on which MyBook you purchased) is only going to hit 100MB sec or 200M

Good luck finding PCIx cards for the G5 - as you may have forgotten, PCIe cards won't work in a G5. And, you're gonna have a heck of time finding drivers for the G5 that will work under Linux as well.
