New Mac Pro and Avid MC/Symphony Performance
by Stephen Fenn 5 years ago
Hi, I'm thinking of upgrading from my 2008 2 x 2.8 Quad-Core Mac Pro to a new Mac Pro (trashcan). I'm obviously expecting a speed boost but I'm hearing that it's not necessarily that fast running MC 7

It's rendering which is the biggie for me. The biggest slowdown I have in my online edits are having to wait for 'pan and zoom' rostrum shots to render.

Hello, I am a big fan of BCC pan and zoom but the only problem that I have with it is that I cannot seem to find a suitable way of previewing my moves before committing to render them. It seems that t

Geforce GTX 680 Mac Edition

Has anyone got any experience with this card yet. It's quite new and I am keen to have a card that still gives me access to the boot screen in OSX. I am only planning to be using it to grade 1080 rush

Well, I don't plan on doing anything above 1080 but I do plan on getting Resolve 10. What's the extra RAM required for with version 10 Really don't want to lose the boot screen. S
In Motion Effect Editor I can't see my keyframes that are 2200%+
by Stephen Fenn 6 years ago
I can't figure this out and it's infuriating. When I want to do a variable speed effect, e.g. start a clip at 2500% and then slow down to 100% I can't see my first keyframes at 2500% even when I move

Just saw this thread. Would you only expect to see the main benefits of this Mac-dedicated 680 in Resolve on a recent Mac Pro or would an 8 core 2008 MP see any benefit. I'd hate to be lumbered with a
Heavy black vignette on Resolve
by Stephen Fenn 8 years ago
I am trying to add a heavy black vignette to a shot. Normally in Color I would make a vignette in the secondary room and drop the mid luma values on the outside of the vignette which works quite well

I think one thing that is being forgotten here is that, because of a lack of color wheels in Resolve, it will be harder to simulate the proper Resolve experience without a hardware controller, and how

I am not doing any proper grading, just using it to get my head around the interface. I think on that basis I should probably go for the GT 120. Many thanks.

Re: Problem with variable speed

Agreed. This "solution" to FCP's useless speed ramping means it just can't be used for fast turnaround 'as live' edits that I often work in. Unfortunately Avid really is the only way to go on this. Su

Oh no, I didn't explain very well. I can "promote to 3d" titles and clips. The thing I'm having trouble with is bringing shapes created in, say, the paint effect into 3d space using the 3d warp tool.

Personally, I have worked among many experienced tv editors and very few of them have or have needed showreels to get work. They get it based on their experience alone.
