I am in need of some help. I'm editing some video footage that was recorded onto an SD card in 1080i, and would like to export and play it back on an SD card, via a BluRay player with an SD card slot.

Try going into Particular's physics controls and keyframe the "Physics Time Factor" property. The default setting is 1, but a value of 0 will "freeze" whatever has been emitted at that point in time.
