Exporting 480i project?
by Scott Fields 11 months ago
I digitized a bunch of old family tapes from the '80s & '90s-- mostly VHS, some Betamax, some mini DV. I edited them in FCPX but I'm not sure what is the best option for how to export. Should I conver

Keep it real and stay 480i! When you make an mp4, it will get deinterlaced anyway.

Seems to be an issue on newer iMacs. Google around. It's out there. fwiw I have the same problem and developed the annoying, but necessary, habit of pressing the space bar twice to get the video in sy
Is this compositing scenario possible in FCP?
by Scott Fields 7 years ago
I have an interview with a fairly motionless seated person. I would like to fly a graphic in but have it go BEHIND the person as it moves from the left side of the frame to the right-- total duration

This is pretty easy in final cut, no AE artist needed. First, you download the free Paul Crisp multipoint masking tool, either the 12 or 16-point one should work for a standing-still person. Make a du
Upconvert letterboxed 4x3 for DVD?
by Scott Fields 7 years ago
I have a digibeta with a letterboxed movie. I'd like to make a dvd that will play 16x9 (without the letterbox). Rather than scale up in FCP, I figured I'd upconvert the movie using the Kona3 so that I

Same issue here. I have FCP on the system drive (SSD) and media on an external FW800 G-Raid. I even tried putting media on the internal SSD as well as an external SSD but it keeps happening so I'm fai
Timecode filter in compressor?
by Scott Fields 10 years ago
No matter what my sequence timecode is, the Timecode Generator filter in Compressor starts at 00:00:00:00. And I made absolutely certain that the "start timecode at 00:00:00:00 box was NOT checked. I

I now believe it IS a bug. I tried this on three different FCP systems and it's repeatable. Sad part is, it USED to work.

Benefit of encoding interlaced as progressive?
by Scott Fields 10 years ago

Thank you, but is there any reason NOT to encode interlaced material as progressive for use on a SD DVD
Capturing U-matic SP into Final Cut
by Rob Willis 10 years ago
I purchased a Sony U-Matic SP BVU950P machine recently to archive all my old material. I'm using Final Cut Studio 3 to capture via a Formac Studio FS10. I've taken the video from the BNC output of the

I recently had almost the EXACT same experience as you. The project was to archive a bunch of 3 4" tapes using the client's VP-5040 u-matic player. Playback on the studio monitor looked fine, but the
