Bevel deformer splits parametric cylider
by Pravin Chottera 3 months ago
Hi all, I'm having an issue with the bevel deformer on cylinders and oil tanks. For some reason , the deformer bevels all the edges except the rim (which is what I want). On a cylinder it splits the c

Thanks Brian, I had forgotten that trick. That means the "cap" of a cylinder isn't actually attached when it come out of "make editable" - at least not at all the vertexes.
Extrude text letter by letter using effector
by Pravin Chottera 6 months ago
I want the text to start flat and extrude letter by letter, ideally parametrically and controlled by a plain effector. I tried using lofts, extrudes, motext, but nothing was giving me what I want. Any

Arnold bump map not working on downloaded model

I have an arnold material that works fine on primitives and other models I've downloaded. For some reason the bump doesn't show up on this one specific model. It's the same texture with the same setti

Plain effector position and random weights
by Pravin Chottera 2 years ago
This seems super basic, but it's got me scratching my head... I'm using the plain effector to make a bunch of cloned snowflakes fall. I need to ramp the speed of the snowflakes, which is why I'm using

Sketch&Toon - Dashed line sliding
by Pravin Chottera 2 years ago
I'm using S&T to draw some dashed lines along a spline, but the dashed lines are slipping relative to the other objects in the scene. You can see how it slips relative to the boxes. I've played around

I don't think so (but would be glad to be wrong) - the Help says "The Pattern settings give a pattern to the lines such as dashes or dots. These patterns are mostly useful for technical illustrations"
Bake Jiggle deformation

Hey! So, I've got a platonic that has a random scaling with Jiggle. It looks great, now I want to clone it. I tried a Point Cache, which makes the distortion permanent, but when i clone and use a Shad

Trying the same thing, but I must be missing something. When I bake the object (select object - -function - bake - check pla), it just creates a copy of the object with the same jiggle deformer. When

Make a layer always point away from another layer

I wrote an expression to have the square always point away from the circle, and the circle to always point to the layer. However, I think I took the brute force route and feel like there is a smarter

Texture Clones to look like on/off LEDs

Expression to check for keyframes
by Pravin Chottera 4 years ago
I want to create an expression to control the particle count of particular based on the movement of a null object. I was wondering if there was an expression to check for the existence of a keyframe.

Ack, you know you've been away too long when you're over complicating expressions, this works too: if(position.numKeys 0){ keyframes! } Darby Edelen
Particular Subframe sampling

Never knew about smoothing. Nifty trick. However, it didn't seem to affect the particles. Initially the particles curve nicely because of the high subframe sampling. Then, as the particles continue to

Anti-aliasing of Obscuration Layer (Particular)
