FCPX: A Lesson in Language
by Philip Bowser 5 years ago
FCPX re-invented the wheel in a number of ways. Whether that wheel is as effective as previous wheels is still up for debate, however you can't deny Apple's courage and determination to change the NLE

by Philip Bowser 6 years ago
In case anyone is interested, today I wrote a script that generates a folder structure inside of AE on startup. There's a base template in there now, but you can easily modify it to your own liking. I

New FCPX to AE script
by Philip Bowser 6 years ago
For anyone interested, I'm in the process of building a script to transition from FCPX to AE, similar to the old Popcorn Island script that worked really nice with FCP7. The workflow currently is kind

Hey Eugeny, Please please please inform me if I'm mistaken, but I believe there are currently two workflows which are stable, the X to 7 approach ($50), or the ClipExporter approach (open source!). Cl
NEW FCPX to AE Script!
by Philip Bowser 6 years ago
Hello fellow FCPX users, I've started a forum in the After Effects section where I'm posting my progress on an import script to go from FCPX to AE. Check it! http: forums.creativecow.net readpost 227

Sweet! As much as I love Premiere Pro's obvious advantage with dynamic link between Ps, Ae, etc. FCP X is still my main choice and I use After Effects quite a bit so this is nice. Will it work on CS5.
How to stop expression with Slider?
by Michael Garske 6 years ago
I'm very new to expressions and am wondering how I might go about integrating a slider to control when an expression stops using the slider's keyframes. I'm using this basic expression for the classic
Re: How to stop expression with Slider?

So if you have your "time*360" expression driving a slider control, you want that slider to stop counting up when it reaches a certain frame And I'm assuming maintaining whatever value it stopped at O

Hello everyone, I was wondering if there's any effective way to add some of that classic campfire flickering to a few shots with a bonfire and little additional lighting. I know that probably the best

Good point Dave! Didn't think of that. Kind of reminds me of that old Video Copilot tutorial with simulating the muzzle flash lighting on the subjects face. Philip. Bowser

I second Alex's suggestions. That would be a great laptop! You may also consider a dedicated Graphics Card. The Intel HD graphics are good, but AE is using more GPU nowadays and could really benefit f

Are you talking about an After Effects project file or a composition within a project file You can duplicate compositions in the Project Bin, which will create a new, completely unique composition bas
Referencing a comp if 2 comps have the same name

Hello. I've been working with after effects for quite some time now but this is the first time I stumble onto something like that... So, basically, I am making a template of sorts. For several reasons
Re: Referencing a comp if 2 comps have the same name
by Philip Bowser 6 years ago
I do not believe there is any way to reference a composition other than by name. I thought at first you could maybe use indexes.. but after some searching I don't think comps have indexes in the proje

Hey Michael, I'm still not sure I understand what your end result will actually be. It seems as though this is maybe not the best way to go about it. If you could maybe talk more generally about what
Extrusions in nested comp not showing in main comp

OK, I know I can't add extrusion to a composition layer. So I pre-comped a couple shape layers and added extrusion directly to the shape layers. The extrusion shows up fine in the sub-comp itself, but
Re: Extrusions in nested comp not showing in main comp

That's definitely a great way of looking at it! However, it will also do weird things to any adjustment layers or blending modes within that pre-comp. Adjustment layers will not be isolated to that pr

Perhaps move the 3D shape layers within the pre-comp to the appropriate Z space, then you can make the pre-comp a 2D layer with Collapse Transformations If that doesn't suit your needs, you can make a
