Purchasing stock footage
by Oscar Deflorez 12 years ago
I am shooting DV, half inch 3XCCD. I wondered if anyone here has any experience with using footage aquired from a company such as Getty Images (SD film stock) and using it along side DV footage for us

You will probably find that high-end stock doesn't match up to DV real well. Saturation and overall smoothness of the image will be better when shot on a higher dollar format such as Beta SP or especi

Admittedly, I have not filmed fireworks as of yet (seems I'll have to now :), but just the logistics of it don't make sense IMO to place an orange filter on an environment that has no daylight whatsoe
Pixel burnout?
by Oscar Deflorez 12 years ago
I have recently noticed a white speck on my footage. Have tried cleaning lens. Is this likely a pixel burned out or do my heads need cleaning ... My camera is actually a little brother to the varicam

Thank you John, I will try this. I didn't know that camera's had these hidden features. Too bad they didn't just print this kind of thing in the manual.

Hello there, I have seen this topic touched on a little bit here and there, but I'm still not clear on this. Is someone willing to be longwinded :) 1. Can you import 4X3 footage (framed 16X9)and then

If you want the footage to fit in the frame (meaning no black, or graphics on the sides), you have to zoom IN the footage. You will have some quality issues, likely pixelation and noise. How much depe
Can I cut my 4X3 into 16X9?
by Oscar Deflorez 12 years ago
Is it possible to cut SD 4X3 into SD 16X9 to export a 16X9 image in a non-linear editing program - and if so which ones do this. ie) Premier Thank you to anyone with input.
Cutting 4x3 into 16x9
by Oscar Deflorez 12 years ago
My camera shoots 4x3, but I can select 16x9 guides in the VF. Is it possible with Premier to cut the 4x3 image into 16x9 and have it display properly on a widescreen television Also can I firewire int

Hello everyone, I am learning so much here at the Cow, glad to have found you all. Reading back through the archive I have not seen anything to help me with this question. Question: Once you have comp

Maybe you could start by posting your reel here, or a link to a trailer for your film documentary. Make a name for yourself by promoting and participating in forums whenever you can. Many people will

Pro VS Avid?
by Oscar Deflorez 12 years ago
I'm sure there is lots to say on this obviously, but I am sitting at that crossroad of choice. I am shooting with Panasonics DVC200 SD, 1 2" 3ccd, firewire ENG cam. I was weaned on Elements and am com

I agree with pretty much everything Tim said. I would add that, in my experience, scopes are actually pretty unreliable on both applications (although they should do for very basic monitoring); but yo
Problems with Sony HVR-V1U stabalization modes...
by Dream Big Give Big 12 years ago
I have been shooting with the new Sony HVR-V1U HD minidv cam, and it's been working pretty well for the 6 weeks that I've owned it. However, in the past few days I've noticed that the stabalization mo

IMO - it's a technical problem possibly with that feature. Having said that I would recommend avoiding vibration reduction anyway as it degrades the image. Use a tripod next to always unless of course
day for night
by Oscar Deflorez 12 years ago
Thank you in advance for anyone's ideas on this. I want to shoot a short with a panasonic 3chip 1 2" DVC200 ENG cam. Don't have a mat box for 4X4s. Given the limited res I have I don't want to degrade

Good idea Steve, thank you. I am going to have to get an ND to test that out. I have never needed ND because of course it is built into my camera for the 56K setting (which is the only time you need o
