DVD is PAL so make your timeline SD ProRes 720 x 576 anamorphic 25i. From memory Fields Kit reinterlace plugin might convert the 50p into 25i.

You've had the 500 for years and never shot HD 720p 60p can be great for motion and sports. When you first get into HD shooting it can be a little over whelming with choices and formats and decisions.

ANY HD flavor from that camera works fine for FCP. Really, don't over think it and don't worry about it. Shoot 720 for awhile to save space. Buy some larger P2 Cards down the road and shoot more 1080
