50i doesn't mean the frame rate is 50 frames a sec. It is still 25 frames a sec, its just that each frame has 2 fields, hence the feeling of a slightly smooth 'soap opera' style feeling to the movemen

Not sure what digi deck you are using, perhaps give us the model, but almost all digibeta decks have composite output, in fact most have 3. But it will be a BNC not a phono connection. Get a BNC to ph
