EXRs from Maya imported into AE have all channels black. Imported into Photoshop they look fine.
by Mike Foran 5 months ago
I'm trying to work with EXR sequences provided by another vendor in After Effects. When I import the sequences into AE, and apply Extractor, all of the channels, RGBA, are black. However if I import t

Interestingly, I can open the files in Photoshop, and then save them as EXR files and those modified EXRs open fine in After Effects. I'm not sure if any additional channel data beyond RGBA is preserv
Orienting Stardust particle to 3D layer
by Mike Foran 5 months ago
In the particle system "Stardust," I am attempting to emit "Texture" particles (which have 3 axis rotational values) that orient themselves to a 3D layer's rotation when they are emitted. However, whe

Smoothing rotation of auto-orient along path
by Mike Foran 10 months ago
I have an object moving along a 2D path with auto orient turned on. The path has several 90 angles, which predictably cause the object to instantly rotate to match. I'm looking for an expression that

After all these years I am still in awe of your mastery. Works like a charm. Thanks so much Dan!
Create matte from underlying transparency

I am looking for a way to create a matte from the combined transparency of the current layer and below. In essence, it would work like the "Preserve Underlying Transparency" switch on the timeline. Ho

That's a good thought, thanks. The matte is the thing though. There are so many other uses for it if I could create it.
Creating a long seamless panning sequence with over 50 clips?
by Max Monty 1 year ago
I want to film a bunch of locked down shots and have a fake camera slowly pan its positioning between each video clip. In the end, there may be about 40-50 different clips lined up next to each other-

I agree, that creating one huge video is going to be a memory and CPU disaster. Break the shot up into more manageable pieces and use a master null to pan them through the main comp. If your master nu
Toggle variable with time
by Mike Foran 2 years ago
I'm trying to build an expression that toggles a variable at 0 or 500 at time intervals. So for 3 seconds it's 0, then for 7 seconds it's 500, repeat... The reason for doing this is to try to get Part

Sorry I just re-read my original post and the script I provided didn't completely solve it. Here's a more detailed script that references two sliders named 'On and 'Off' that are on a controller null.
Display the name of the next visible layer below
by Mike Foran 3 years ago
Hello all, I am trying to figure a way to automatically display the name of the next visible layer below a text layer. I have figured out how to display the name of a layer directly below a text layer

I presume the "hasVideo" and "active" return a 1 if True, and Opacity anything over 0 would be visible, so if all three of those attributes are 0 then it sets the string to the name of the layer. Othe
