its very dangerous to simply clip shadows and highlights to pure b w instead of rgb balancing because you can easily get artifacts. i look forward to joining that group now and reading about this.

Dylan; right, changing the External Matte Saver option under Matte from "A" to "RGBA" does indeed output a usable file and one that Resolve recognizes. But of course it is no longer just an alpha chan
