I stick to DNx codecs. It has the added bonus that it is also the codec of choice if returning to Avid. DNx in mxf wrappers should be the default delivery codec as it is open and available, not closed

You should trust the track meter. The master can be affected by all sorts of things and doesn't reflect the actual recording levels. The correct way to pan a track is to use equal energy panning. This

Being able to trim multi values is important but it is so much more with a control panel. When grading you look at the screen while you make changes rather than looking at where the mouse is on screen

Alright, I think I get it. Select clips -- assign role. I can use the minimize button to shrink the tracks that I've already assigned, and then assign (or re-assign) the remaining tracks. Makes sense.

Not much point in using HQ. Normal ProRes422 is fine for footage coming from a DSLR. Have a search on the Final Cut Pro forum for advice from Gary Adcock about avoiding HQ except for 2k up frame sizes
