One thing I had trouble with, or almost forgot: if you install FCP Studio before FCPX, also remember to install the UPDATES of the FCP Studio before you install FCPX. And you have to get them manually

How are you exporting your Master file You are taking about An mp4, which is compressed. Try exporting An Apple ProRes. Or create your own setting in Compressor, and use it in FCPX.

As David said: everything is okay, as long as you have audio and or timecode on both cameras. This is normal practice, so I suppose that isn't a problem What you do is, you select the long clip and go
