Way to prevent PPro's -3dB audio export?
by Marc Brown 8 years ago
Can't seem to pin this one down. PPro (CS4) is performing an arbitrary and seemingly non-defeatable attenuation of any wav it exports through Media Encoder, of exactly 3dB. This is a nuisance. The onl

It's an interesting find, and I appreciate the effort needed to have dug it up. And I do feel that the -3dB nature of the attenuation is related to this "sweet spot" the article discusses, in the sens
Scale without a filter?
by Marc Brown 8 years ago
Basically I have a 176x223 video whose horizontal resolution I am trying to double. The nature of the video, plus the fact that it is a low resolution, means what I'm specifically attempting to do is

Solved my own problem. I felt like I was hitting a brick wall. Worse than that. The inability to do something so simple was manifestly inexplicable. Even Photoshop (my last result) failed, because its
Film restoration

There's Red Giant Film Fix. Or, rather, there isn't. And anyway, we're talking about something released so far in the past that I'd probably have to get my hands on After Effects 5.5 just to get it ru

1. I wrote 2 free projects for cs3 that will recover "lost" highlights and edge soften. http: forums.creativecow.net thread 2 978546#979098 2. also this is an easy way to mask the 6 primary and second
WHY can I not get a truly raw render?
by Marc Brown 9 years ago
I want to pin this one down once and for all. With less than a day left to me, it's terribly important. Premiere Pro CS4 has never given me a truly raw output. By that, I mean a video file which I can
Re: WHY can I not get a truly raw render?

Not sure how to do that, exactly. The sequence from which I export claims to be 23.976fps, and the video used in said sequence is all interpreted as progressive. If there are other (well-hidden ) vari
Interpret composition? (Not footage)
by Marc Brown 9 years ago
Subject says it all. Here's my specific situation. I've got some film footage as a 29.97fps mpeg2. I want to be able to do some noise reduction on this footage. But I also plan to remove pulldown and
Re: Interpret composition? (Not footage)

No argument. If I had a raw 1080p file in front of me, I'd be rather happier. Unfortunately, what I do have is a DVD encode of a VHS tape. Anyway, it looks a lot better now that I've gone through the
Here are the problems I encountered during my Encore Blu-ray project
by Marc Brown 10 years ago
Just going to round out the issues I had burning a Blu-ray, and the solutions, if applicable. The main point of this post is to help folks who find themselves Googling for answers. Unlike my experienc

Yes, you did preface it that way. And then in the remainder of your post made it quite clear editorially that you considered these Encore issues. A preface is like turning on italics at the start of
Why does Encore create (and play) two different menu streams?
by Marc Brown 10 years ago
This is frustrating. All I want to do is have Encore generate a disc which plays my motion menu and turns the buttons on after about six seconds. What Encore is doing is creating two separate menu str
Re: Why does Encore create (and play) two different menu streams?

Shrug. I already gave mpeg2 a whirl, thinking perhaps Encore was doing the dual stream thing exclusively with AVC material. I used the .M2V that encore itself generated (for no apparent reason) during
Color space confusion
by Marc Brown 10 years ago
My situation: I'm using AE to render off a home video. The AE project makes full use of the 0-255 color space range (meaning there are details on both ends of the spectrum which I do not want crushed)
Re: Color space confusion

Thanks for the reply. I gave this a shot, but as I half-anticipated, the resulting output was identical to what I got by setting the workspace as 16-235, as was the resulting Blu-ray video. In either
Linking audio amplitude to PNG sequence?
by Marc Brown 11 years ago
This feels like a FAQ, and yet I can't really pinpoint what I'm after in any of the plethora of discussions on linking audio amplitude. Basically, I've got this sequence of 28 PNG files which happen t
Re: Linking audio amplitude to PNG sequence?

You need turn on time-remapping for your PNG sequence and use a time remapping expression something like this: minAudio = 0; maxAudio = 15; maxFrame = 28; audioLev = thisComp.layer("Audio Amplitude").
Syntax for returning value that alternates 0,1,0,1,0,1?
by Marc Brown 11 years ago
I have a project in which I must find a way of returning an alternating value (like 0,1,0,1) based on the frame number (ie, Frame 0: zero. Frame 1: one. Frame 2: zero. Frame 3: one. Etc.) I thought I

I don't know how it works, but it works. Thanks! It's a sure bet that without your help, I'd have spent the whole day puzzling it out rather than starting a fresh render. I'll worry about the ins and
