sorry steve, it wont work you need 3 things in a video media server - 1. Ethernet ports for your connected systems, 2. enough processor power to move media around, and 3. fast storage. the only answer

Keith, The Samsung gets good reviews and its about the same price as the Dell 24" Ultrasharp. Either one will work for you. I have the Dells myself. Both monitors will take some time to setup in order

I can't really comment on color correcting HDV footage with Color since I've never done it. Perhaps sticking with HDV would be better. But I do know that if you want to color correct using After Effec
