Transparency lost when importing PNG into FCP

Strange thing keeps happening when importing a transparent PNG into FCP. Images created with the same settings in PS will sometimes mysteriously end up with a black background when taken into FCP. The

Actually, I figured out a work around, if not a cure. I spent the better half of an hour looking for this and here is what I found: When you pull the PNG into your time line and it is not transparent,

This is totally normal. Pan the track in the timeline all the way left or right. If you leave it centered it will be louder by 6db For more on this http: en.m.wikipedia.org wiki Pan_law

Thanks everyone for your advice. I have asked for an XML so hopefully that will help but I might download CC for a month like suggested, it will save a lot of hassle.
