Online compression with NOISE effect
by John Pastuch 7 years ago
Hey guys, I have a video where I'm applying some heavy NOISE in Premiere CS6 to the clips directly, as each clip must have a different level of the effect on it. This is merely an artistic choice and

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping that wasn't the only option, but it makes sense. I have seen other videos on vimeo that use similar noise fx. I contacted one to see what filter he used and am hopin
Highest Quality DV export?
by John Pastuch 7 years ago
I'm working in CS6, editing 24pA DVX100 footage. I'm doing all color correction within PP. I want to export the highest quality file, basically a lossless file of the finished product as a "master" wh

Thanks Ivan, you probably saved me hours (or days) of annoyance.
Zoom H4N Line Inputs with field mixers
by Jim Dollarhide 9 years ago
I have a new H4N and got a Sound Devices MixPre mixer. The H4N seems to have no line inputs. I tried an XLR - RCA Phone (mono) adapter, and the audio coming into the H4N is still distorted. What is th

Yo just wanted to say Roland, your video totally saved me for a shoot over the weekend. It was my first time using a mixer going into the h4n and luckily your setup worked beautifully for me, especial
Best ways to edit and export DV in CS6
by John Pastuch 8 years ago
This is sort of a blast from the past, but I need to edit quite a bit of DV footage, some anamorphic, some 24p, some just regular Dv NTSC (all separate projects). I have a fairly fast computer so I ne

Ah, so I have to convert to square pixels That was the thing I wasn't sure about and I didn't even try because I figured that would mess up the math behind the PAR and the 16x9 fitting into 720x480, b
Capturing Anamorphic DV footage
by John Pastuch 8 years ago
I'm doing a job for a client where I need to edit some DV footage shot in anamorphic mode. The guy who shot it is a professional and the client requested it shot on miniDV but with 16:9 ratio so he ob

Dave- It was shot interlaced. The problem was that I did not have the field dominance set to Lower and was not replacing the timeline clips (I thought it would change the clips in the timeline too). T
Using offline clips for sound editing
by John Pastuch 9 years ago
Wasn't exactly sure where to put this, but since I edited my film in FCP and it's concerning frame rates... OK, so I've been editing a movie I shot on the DVX100 in 24pA mode. I did everything in FCP

Certainly doesn't sound right. You'll have to do your testing with longer pieces than 30 seconds. David Roth Weiss Director Editor Colorist David Weiss Productions, Inc. Los Angeles http: www.drwfilms
Can't import one .mov file?
by John Pastuch 10 years ago
I shot a scene on my DVX100 straight to my friends Macbook Pro through FCP 7. We checked and imported all the footage afterwards, and everything seemed OK. I'm editing on a desktop Mac at school which

I know it's been a while since this post, but I'm coming back to the mov file and while it plays fine in Quicktime, it still won't import- how exactly do I export within Quicktime with the same exact
Quicktime files not optimized- play choppy?
by John Pastuch 10 years ago
OK!- so I imported a bunch of .mov files from my harddrive into FCP a while back. I got a bunch of messages saying they weren't "optimized" for FCP and to use media manager to copy them. I didn't know

Macroblocking
by John Pastuch 10 years ago
I shot some footage outside on the Dvx100 the other day and got some serious Macroblocking. I couldn't tell at the time, but it's quite noticable in some takes when I bring it into FCP. I was thinking

That WAS 24pA with pulldown removal. From what I understand, the big contrast in lighting in combination with the coat pattern, hair and moving forest just basically caused the DVX compression to fail
DVX100 blocky footage
by John Pastuch 10 years ago
I shot some stuff today outside, reviewed on location and it looked fine. I brought it into FCP 7 via firewire (with NTSC 24pA capture settings) and the footage looks awful, especially compared to oth

Looks like DV footage to me- a bit overexposed though. Also don't use THIN ever unless this is intended for a film output or an HD upconversion. Noah Check out my book: RED: The Ultimate Guide to Usin
