I set After Effects to use only 7 of my 8 cores and never had this issue again. Try setting it to use 10 or 11 of yours and see if that helps.

And because they're just AE presets, the download is maybe 1mb. Other than that, hue saturation, curves, etc are your friends.

If you link the ball to a null object, you can make 3 keyframes per bounce and then just shape the motion to be more parabolic. Still have to make 3 key frames for every bounce, but I don't see a way
