Post-credits Epilogues
by Mike Cohen 8 years ago
I am not sure when this began, but the trick of adding either a surprise ending or simply a lead-in to a sequel either during or after the end credits seems quite popular these days. Planet of the Ape

I like it, but that's probably because I've always stuck around for the credits (out of some weird sort of respect) and I just feel like I'm being rewarded for it :-). I do like it in the sense that i

Randomize "Sequence Replicator", Motion 5
by Jay Carr 8 years ago
I have a animation I'm working on that involves about 400 stick figures that I have inside of a replicator. I need them to change in a random order. I was going to use "Sequence Replicator" to do it,

Ah, it would appear that Google, and Mark Spencer, are my friends (sorry Andy, I've used your tuts before too though). Found an old tutorial that mentioned the "Shuffle Order" box. Ticked it, problem
Tutorial on Light Reflection
by Dave George 8 years ago
I don't remember what this is called, exactly, but it's a very common effect where light reflects quickly across text or an object from one end to the other. I saw a tutorial on this, but now I can't

Can you possibly post some footage for something that looks similar, there are a couple effects that sound vaguely like that one.
.mov (h264) to .flv using ffmpeg
by Jay Carr 8 years ago
I should first clarify, I'm using iffmpeg which is a skin for ffmpeg, but it works the same... Anyway, to the problem. I have a video that's a .mov with an .h264 codec. At about 4400kbs, 1280x720p, 59
Re: .mov (h264) to .flv using ffmpeg
by Jay Carr 8 years ago
Ah, hah! After your last little comment there (showing that libx264 is what I needed to use), I was able to do a little bit of searching and figured out how to fit the libx264 into a .flv. Success! It
Rendering issue.. proberly an oldie!

For some time now my Motion4 have been acting out, when i render. I command+R -and see in the preview window it's being rendered, frame by frame, but when it reaches 100% rendered, and the window diss

I've had a somewhat similar problem before. Have you tried clearing your RAM preview I've found that if I do that periodically, it tends to make the RAM preview work better... It's under Mark RAM Prev
variable speed
by Erica James 8 years ago
I have a clip that I need to start off at a normal speed, then speed up, and then go back to its normal speed. I know FCP is not too great to do this in because the frames get all messed up. How do I
Re: variable speed

It's at the bottom of the Properties tab. Change the timing from constant to variable, then you can control the rate that the video plays at via keyframes. (Meaning, pick when one frame will play, the
What to use rigging for?
by Jay Carr 8 years ago
This is just a general question for anyone with Motion 5. What are you using Rigging for I'm just trying to get a sense of what this new feature can do for my projects... Personally, I haven't used it
Re: What to use rigging for?
by Jay Carr 8 years ago
Hmmm, interesting. I keep wondering if I can use Motions rigging for more traditional rigs. Specifically, I keep thinking I might give a go at making a stick figure that I can animate using the rig. I
Moton 5 Audio syncs on playback but not in render
by Don Smith 8 years ago
I ran into this problem with a previous project but I assumed it was a problematic file I had inherited. Now, starting fresh, the audio problems persist both on my MacPro and my new Thunderbolt 17" Ma

I ran into the same problem, and have on a couple projects. My only solution so far has been to use another editor to resync audio after exporting from Motion...
Keying: Canon 5DmkII v. Canon XH A1
by Jay Carr 8 years ago
So, I have access to both of these cameras at work but, for reason I won't go into, I can't just sit down and run a full set of tests to figure out which of the two is actually better for green screen

Ah, clearly I wasn't "reading this thing correctly". Yeah, now that I have the right data, it's a no brainer. Thanks!
Motion's new keyer
by Alan Okey 8 years ago
It's really, really good. It may not put any Nuke compositors out of business, but it's light years ahead of the old keyers in Motion and FCP. I've come to depend on Combustion's Discreet and Diamond

Notions of the "Cinematic"
by Joey Bania 8 years ago
Hey Team. I'm currently putting together a research project examining the popular perception that DSLRs enable a low-budget "cinematic" aesthetic and would love some feedback on a couple of things. Fi

To have a cinematic look you need a cinematic eye. Everything else, camera included, it's just a tool.

Media Missing in Livetype File

I'm getting the "Media Missing in Livetype File" error in a new FCP project, importing from an old one. When I "Open in Editor", the file opens fine and all of my text is there. Regardless of whether

fcp 8 - when can we expect it to be released?
by paul colin 9 years ago
I'm currently using fcp 6.06 and would like to update to fcp 7. However if fcp 8 will be released soon me thinks I probably should wait until 8 is released, unless it takes apple many months for this
Re: fcp 8 - when can we expect it to be released?
by Jay Carr 8 years ago
There's some pretty good rumors going around that the release will coincide with the NAB conference next week. So...fingers crossed.
