by shawn riley 6 years ago
Hello all, I am looking to purchase a 50mm lens for my 7d, do I get the 1.4usm or the 1.8 lens Thank you all for your input !!

The awesome low-light qualities of a 1.2 or a 1.4 lens seem obvious to me. But the question is, if your depth of field is going to so shallow that an entire face can't be in focus at the same time, is
Log in Clip Browser, then Log & Transfer?
by Jason Mann 7 years ago
Hello - I've searched (a lot) for others in this predicament, and haven't found anyone yet. I am working on a long form documentary with one other person, and we'd like to log footage simultaneously.

I've run into the same problem and tried several workflow variations. I'm now using XDcam Transfer to import instead of Log and Transfer. There's pros and cons to both. L&T allowed me to drop clips in
CatDV for a two-person documentary company?
by Jason Mann 7 years ago
CatDV seems like a great product, but I'm not sure if I've been using the demo version in the right way. Here's our situation: I work with one other person. We shoot and edit almost all of our own stu

Issues with Keylight
by Jason Mann 7 years ago
Hi all. I'm hoping someone out there can help me figure out if I'm shooting my greenscreen footage wrong or somehow screwing it up in the FCP Keylight plugin. (I can't make it look good in Motion eith

No offense taken, whatsoever, Dave. In fact, I'm assuming it IS user error (or lighting error) on my part. I have read and re-read The Foundry's user manual many times. I've also used a great Keylight
RAID Card with Proavio Editbox 8 MS

Hope it's okay to post in the Kona forum. This seems to be where a lot of previous RAID discussions have taken place... I am attempting to construct an 8 drive RAID 5 array for use with my Mac Pro run

Thanks Fred - I'm looking at the R380 as another option. (I wish it was as cheap as the RocketRAID, but I guess it could be a get-what-you-pay-for situation...) Glad to hear it works with Snow Leopard
flash frame in Keylight??
by Jason Mann 8 years ago
I have a really odd problem. I am using Keylight to key out a greenscreen on several shots. (talking head interview, not a lot of motion.) When I RAM preview or render out a composition (and this is h

Thanks - that's a good idea. I'll try animation I guess. does AE like Animation more than 8 or 10bit Uncompressed. (We tend to capture via our Kona Lhe card using either ProRes, or uncompressed.) -- J

Mimicking a GPS map
by Jason Mann 8 years ago
Hey all - sorry for the simple question, but here goes: I am trying to emulate a GPS display (like a Garmin or TomTom) in a little animation. I have a tiff file of a map, and I have been able to draw

SmoothCam renders disappearing

Hello, I have noticed over time that a lot of my SmoothCam renders are disappearing for no apparent reason. Basically, I will render all of my sequences, and quite often, when I go back into a sequenc

I'm having this same issue. I'm on 6.0.4, and it is INFURIATING. My entire stabilizing workflow is kinda nuts actually. I either take everything over to Motion, (where I can't analyze all of the clips
Green frames after Cinema Tools reverse telecine with ProResHQ
by Ted Griffis 9 years ago
Hello all, I recently up-converted some film archives material to 1080i 29.97 ProResHQ from Digibeta through an AJA ioHD. When I went into Cinema Tools to do a reverse telecine some strange things hap

I get bright green artifacts (usually big rectangles on one side of the frame) when I have embedded Motion clips in the timeline. For example - if I send a clip to Motion to stabilize it, then render
Sharing projects on one workstation

Whoa. Why didn't I think of that Am I right in assuming FCP project files are better off on a separate drive from media (I've always done it this way, but I forget why... or if I ever had a reason...)
Stabilize multiple clips

Is there an easy way to do this Rather than having to select each clip individually, apply the stabilize behavior, and analyze each clip separately... Is there a way to have Motion analyze all the cli
Re: Stabilize multiple clips

Did anyone ever figure this out Seems like it ought to be possible to batch analyze in Motion. Otherwise, I'll have to sit here all day clicking "analyze". That would be less than ideal.-- Jason Mann
Need to translate 1080p timecode

Image shifted when in 1080p?

Thanks Jeremy. My current theory is that the Dell 2408 only supports 1080p via the digital inputs (DVI, HDMI, etc...) and not on the component inputs, which is what I'm using. If I can get my hand on
