Middle Mouse button to toggle hand tool?
by Jared Gardner 4 years ago
After Effects has this built in but Premiere doesn't seem to. How can I make my middle mouse button toggle the hand tool temporarily when it's held down That would be rather convenient.
Transparent mask?
by Jared Gardner 4 years ago
When you have a composition, you can drag things to any corner and it'll disappear out of the screen. I'm trying to get something to disappear out of the screen, but in the MIDDLE of the screen. Like

I don't know what a track matte is, but I guess it's time to find out.
Rotating a circle shape layer perfectly
by Jared Gardner 4 years ago
I have a simple shape layer which is a dashed circle and I'd like to make it rotate (spin in a 2D way). I dragged the rotation keyframe thing but it's wobbling ever so slightly. I also tried making it

Blending mode for painter's palette?
by Jared Gardner 4 years ago
I should've learned this about two decades ago, but I need to know the appropriate blending mode for changing the color of objects when they overlap. All I'm trying to do is take 3 different solid col
Re: Blending mode for painter's palette?

Technically that'd be the multiply blend mode, but pure red and pure green multiplied together (for example) would result in pure black. If your goal is to emulate real world paints then I'd definitel
Separating the YUV channels?
by Jared Gardner 4 years ago
I'm trying to demonstrate the different YUV channels in HD video but I can't quite find an effect in AE that lets me see just the Y, U or V channels separately. Is there something in there that would

Great thinking of Jim! Simple as that - but I did not manage to get to it. Thanks! www.jaydude.nl
Sound FX pack?
by Jared Gardner 4 years ago
I could post this in many places but this one seems like my best bet. I'm doing a lot of AE stuff lately with simple text animation and small icons photos moving around. It's more tutorial-type stuff.

Designer sound FX from Videocopilot is great as well. I use those for any of my animated explainers. Their newer audio pack might work as well. Thanks, Ari
Auto Bezier & Easy Ease difference?
by Jared Gardner 4 years ago
I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the difference between these two. I understand ease in and ease out, and that Easy Ease does both, so that makes me think an Easy Ease setting is the sam

This is a good opportunity to read the manual ;) I'm really not trying to be a smart ass. The manual gives a lot of insight for things like this. I'll admit, I never understood it either. https: helpx
Analog & Digital color correction hardware?
by Jared Gardner 5 years ago
Sorry if this is the wrong forum. I'm an audio engineer and a lot of times we go for older, used hardware units for FX processing. Sometimes a software plugin is OK, but hardware (even if it's not ana

Interlacing tech question
by Jared Gardner 6 years ago
This may not be the appropriate section but I think this falls under 'compression' in some way. I'm confused about exactly how interlacing worked in the old days so let's try and clear this up: 1) Do
Re: Interlacing tech question
by Rich Rubasch 6 years ago
It's more about horizontal (and to some degree vertical) motion. With interlacing you get the "effect" of recording at 60 frames per second, however only the first 1 60th of the second is recorded int
Line animation for maps?

I'm trying to get some dotted lines to animate starting from nothing. What I mean is like a dotted line on a map wiping over to the next area on the map. I've created some -------- lines and got the p
Re: Line animation for maps?

Another approach is to use the shape tool to create a stroke only. Open up the stroke parameters and change the Line Cap to "Round Cap" and in the Dashes twirl down add a dash and gap. Now adjust the
Time remapping slope
by Jared Gardner 6 years ago
I'm looking at the graph but I'm a little confused. I've time remapped some stuff to have a frame extension in a place or two, but it seems to have switched the normal playback rate from 1.00 second s
Re: Time remapping slope
by Jared Gardner 6 years ago
I'm apparently not doing this right if it's supposed to be 0.00 seconds sec. Here's my current method: 1) Add time remapping 2) Go to a frame I want to pause and create new keyframe 3) Move over one s
Building a custom Arri kit

Jared, This type of question gets asked over and over and over again here. And it's the hardest kind to answer. Partly because it's a chicken or egg question. If we don't know HOW you're going to use
HF100, 24p & pulldown/interlacing
by Jared Gardner 8 years ago
I hope someone can put some of this into plain English for me. I'm not so experienced with the techy details of how this works. Ok, so I've got a Canon HF100. I always thought it was filming at 24fps
Sequence settings, editing mode, & preview settings

I need to clear up some confusion, so let me know if I've got this right: When beginning a new sequence, you should choose the sequence preset which matches your source footage. This is because there

In 5.5, you can just right-click a file (even in the Media Browser, where it's a huge time-saver) to create a sequence based on its properties.
