It usually means a corrupt clip somewhere or even just a one frame. Have you tried bringing the last 13 one at a time Does it crash no matter which one you bring in Best

Get over it, FCP 7 is dead and it's not coming back, but to be honest if you just want a similar UI to 7 then the move to premiere should be straight forward. In any case I've always set FCP and Avid

When you say disappears, do you mean you can't see even the faintest hint of the effect Are you sending straight to compressor from FCP or are you exporting a Pro Res then compressing It's hard to say
