How do I get 15-20 Mbps bitrate in Media Encoder settings
by Hilary Tsai 24 hours ago
I apologize if this is too obvious a question; I'm following a spec sheet that requires videos to be exported in h.264 and with15-20 Mbps bitrate. I have no problem with the first part, but all I'm se

How to make text take the shape of a container?
by Hilary Tsai 2 weeks ago
I want to make my text into the shape of a rectangle (just two words--one on top of the other), which fill up a mask but do not spill outside the bounds of that mask. It's hard to describe what I mean

Thanks Dave! I think I will try adding some bulge on top of the warp effect.
How come Final Cut won't recognize RGB and alpha transparency from video rendered in Aftereffects?
by Hilary Tsai 1 month ago
I made an animation in Aftereffects to be exported and brought into FinalCut to be used as a layover on top of my video. (just a little animation that plays over top of the video I've already loaded i

Thank you, Jeff and everyone! It turned out the alpha handling settings were not correct. I adjusted it and it worked. I appreciate all the helpful advice and am keeping it in mind for the future.
Possible to add points to a helix?

I want to animate shapes along a helix, but I also want to be able to join the helix to another spline path I create (so that the shapes get to the end of the helix, then travel along the custom splin

the Helix is a parametric object (like the sphere cube etc) which means you have settings to control the size rotations etc in the object. All parametric objects can be made editable (top icon on the
What is the best way to make it look like a bite's been taken out of my mo-text?
by Hilary Tsai 5 months ago
I need to make my 3D text look like someone's taken a bite out of the corner, like it were made of candy or something. I'm working with simple extruded text, with no intricate texture yet; but I'd lik

Thank you Emir!! This is exactly what I hoped to achieve, and sorry for the late response! I will follow this method of doing the bite and add particles in Ae:)

how to "pin" object down so that joint animation doesn't lift up the entire object?
by Hilary Tsai 6 months ago
I'm animating a character's tongue using joints (I'm new to joints, so pardon me if this is a really obvious solution). I followed a tutorial for creating a joint chain and binding it to the tongue ob
best way to model and animate a snake's tongue flicker

Thank you both! I tried the spline wrap but ended up using bend with the strength connected to sound through expresso to get it to be really fast. I will try adding the motion blur channel like you su
I don't understand difference between media servers vs. standalone playback

I'm very interested in live show visual fx such as projection mapping and projected set design for live concerts and shows. Recently, I've stumbled upon a real time rendering software called Notch, wh

Can Vive tracker be used without the headset in order to track a live performer?
by Hilary Tsai 8 months ago
I'm planning to use the Vive tracker as a standalone (no headset) device, which I would attach to a musician's instrument to project visual fx on the wall behind him. I want to use Notch builder, whic
AR markers for tracking performers?

Thanks Walter! I am now looking to using Perception Neuron trackers instead of AR. I hadn't even realized that in a dark setting, the camera wouldn't recognize the markers. I'm so glad you caught that
Projection Mapping advice

Hi all, I'm working on a building projection mapping project and I'm looking for some advice. I have experience with flat surfaces, but this particular building is a castle which has some curved parts

Do you have any 3D skills You could model that pretty easily in Cinema4D or another 3D software, then texture your image video onto the model. Then you just project that model onto the castle.
suggestions on live tracking+projection onto performers?

Thanks Matt! Regarding Blacktrax tho, I see it costs thousands of dollars and is more geared towards big events. I'm looking for a much smaller scale solution, for personal use and smaller venues. Is
Would it be easier to try to configure Kinect v. 2 for Mac OS X, or to dual boot and get Windows on my MacBook, so Kinect can work easily with it?

What can c4d be paired with for live, motion-tracked visual fx?

The Unity engine is even faster with just 2D. Its a nice package because you can use art or timelines or programming or all three to achieve your task. And there is a free version! It plays well with

I'd worry less about the C4d Mapping. In the end you are putting 2d content onto a 3D surface. So you can certainly have a a floating 3D cube casting a shadow on the surface and it will look like it's
