Depends on what exactly you're looking to create. Illustrator files can't be imported (other than as PDF) into Motion. Of course most things (such as shapes, masks etc.) are just as well if not better

Craig, you rock!!! VLC works for 10.6 and later so it works with my os x. I downloaded it and was able to see that my file was indeed stretched. The new version of the same file plays correctly on VLC
