I believe I stumbled across a solution to my first problem of the transition causing a fade-in or fade-out of audio before I wanted it to happen -- keyframing the audio. It's just that it seemed like
Need dependable method for connecting Firewire hard drives to 2016 MacBook Pro

I use FCPX on a Mac Pro desktop computer. I'd like my organization to purchase a 2016 MacBook Pro laptop so I can use FCPX away from the office. We've been using firewire external hard drives for vide

Thanks for the reply, we'll probably start using Thunderbolt 3 drives. I get the impression Apple went all in on the Thunderbolt 3 (which I believe uses the USB-C receptacle) because that's the connec
FCPX 10.1.3 imported clips but they don't show up in library window

This problem seems to be esoteric enough that I can't find it after searching about 20 minutes on the web. I imported some clips from an HDV tape just as I'd done a few minutes previously. I'm new to

Need to blur out or otherwise mute distracting background in interview shot

I posted a version of this question in the AE forum and got the suggestion that rotoscoping would be the solution. Since I'm only working with a :09 video clip, time is of the essence, and I don't kno

Want to blur distracting background behind interview subject
by Gilbert Daspit 7 years ago
This is probably simple enough for AE power users. I'm using AE CS4 and I have a :09 interview clip -- a bust shot with a rather busy mural in the background. I'd like to blur the mural in the backgro

Integrating archiving and post production

Hi -- I work at a government cable TV channel. We have a modest budget which supports 3 full-time shooter editor producers, 1 manager who shoots edits and produces as time allows and sometimes an extr

Thanks for the reply -- the CatDV product seems like exactly what I was thinking about!

I'm putting together a video segment and my sequence settings are basic NTSC 720 x 480 (NTSC CCIR 601, 29.97 timebase, etc). Most of my footage is from DVCAM shot using 720 x480 formatting.
I have some supplementary footage someone else shot using an XDCAM. It is HD footage -- 1440 x 1080i60. Should I convert the XDCAM footage before I import it into Final Cut Pro -- would this be a good workflow? I'm using FCP 7 and I have Compressor v. 3.5.3 as well.
Thanks.

I'm running into an annoying problem. While I'm using FCP and my system is outputtting to a video deck, the a/v output just cuts off, leading me to have to go to the "Refresh A/V devices" function on the FCP "View" menu, which does re-set my a/v output.
I tried correcting this by going to the computer's system preferences and adjusting the "computer sleep" and "display sleep" settings to "never" but this doesn't seem to be the issue.
I've looked to see if there's a relevant adjustment in FCP's system preferences and user preferences but I don't see anything.
The particulars about my mac are it's using FCP version 7.0.3, and OSX 10.6.7. It's a 2 x 2.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon w/ 12gb ram. I'm connected to my video deck (Panasonic AJ SD 255) via Firewire 400 cable coming from an external hard drive (Maxtor).
Does anyone recognize this problem and what I can do to fix it?
Thanks!
Using Matte Feature of Color Corrector 3 Way to blur background

I think the difference matte idea is closer to what I was thinking of. It seemed like I might try to isolate the interviewee and his chair, which were foreground, using color corrector 3-way but durin
