PosterizeTime problem
by John Felt 10 years ago
Hello all I am trying animate a quick thing and need to have to different assets move every 6 frames. Rather than use hold keyframes, I just used the posterizeTime expression. However I ran into a hit
Re: PosterizeTime problem
by Filip Vandueren 10 years ago
Hi John, I think this cannot be done using posterizeTime. This does work: fps=5; phase=180; posTime =(Math.floor(time*fps+phase 360)-phase 360) fps; valueAtTime(posTime); I hope the 'phase' metaphor s

Please advice : how to convert point of interest of a camera to 2D on-screen X/ Y points, including the zoom of the camera ?
by Shai Benshoshan 4 months ago
this is not giving me the result I need: delta = toComp(thisComp.layer("thisComp.layer("top_cam").transform.pointOfInterest) +thisComp.layer("Camera 2").cameraOption.zoom- thisComp.activeCamera.toWorl

Hi there, This seems to work for me; even if the other camera is zooming: cam=thisComp.layer("top_cam"); if (cam.hasParent) { cam_poi = cam.parent.toWorld(cam.pointOfInterest); } else { cam_

3D point to 2D position in 3D layer

Re: 3D point to 2D position in 3D layer
by Filip Vandueren 6 months ago
Because your layer is 3D, it will get a 3D point using the fromComp() method. Corner-pin expects a 2D value and throws away the Z-information, without actually projecting it on to the 2D plan Luckily,

Reveal Text using ease(), inPoint, outPoint

Hi expression folks, I'm trying to create a preset that reveals and hides lines of text - trying to approximate the manual masking effect, or "shape reveal" text effect you see frequently. Using a com

If I understand your desired effect correctly (a simple Wipe down ) I would do it with two linear Wipes like this: Wipe In efect: Wipe Angle = 0 , expression for Transition Completeness: sr = thisLaye

Using a script to add an expression to a layer?
by John Wilkins 11 years ago
I'm not sure if I'm approaching this from the right angle but I'd appreciate some feedback. Dan has just helped me with an expression: timeToCurrentFormat(time) which when applied to a text layer's so
Re: Using a script to add an expression to a layer?
by Filip Vandueren 11 years ago
OK, I'm no scripting expert but I think something like this should work: { activeComp=app.project.activeItem; T=activeComp.layers.addText(); T.name = "Timecode Burn"; T.startTime = 0; T.outPoint = act

Oldie but a goodie. I was having this problem. I needed to keep the sweep's spline in subdivided intermediate points to keep it looking good. Xpresso wasn't allowing the align to spline % to match wit
inverted ease()?

Hate to bug you guys again, but I'm curious to know if there is a way to sort of invert(right word ) the ease() function. Instead of starting fast and ending fast, I wanted to start slow, speed up, an
Re: inverted ease()?
by Filip Vandueren 10 years ago
For future reference, an inverted ease() would work something like this: tMin=0; tMax=2; value1= -100,0 ; value2= 100,0 ; tHalf=(tMin+tMax) 2; valueHalf=(value1+value2) 2; inv_ease = time < tHalf e

Bouncing character

Hi everyone! I'm trying to animate a character jumping between 3 "bases" and then, stay still in the last one. I want this character to have some elasticity, like a rubber ball, or something like that
Re: Bouncing character

Instead of putting all the expressions here, I'll post an animation preset (after effects CC, but might work in older version). Warning: code is a bit messy, still a work in progress, feel free to add

rotation=time...

How do I make the rotation angle to the timecode RH
Re: rotation=time...
by Filip Vandueren 12 years ago
give rotation this expression: time; Now 1 second of comp time will make your layer rotate 1 degree Just mulitply to get it to spin faster. I suppose you're making some kind of timecode clock time*360

Duplicate a pre-comp and make it independant?

If you duplicate a pre-comp, you can't change things in the new pre-comp without changing them in the mother pre-comp as well. I guess they become two clones of the same parent comp or something... In
Re: Duplicate a pre-comp and make it independant?
by Filip Vandueren 10 years ago
Nope, not possible just duplicate the precomp in the project window first, and use that second precomp as the source of the other layer. Or, depending on your setup, you can maybe just add a filter th

Re: Removing flicker from high-speed video - footage embedded

That would effectively speed the footage up 600%, still a bit slow motion, but it would defy the purpose... Here are some other solution that seem to help, though they have a few downsides: Echo Effec

Floating expression

Hello, I was looking for an expression or a way to make a graphic appear to float down like paper or a feather. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks
Re: Floating expression

This could be a starting point, but it will be nicer to animate it by hand so it gets a bit more random. I'm assuming 2D layers: position: sp=2; amp=150; gravity = 50; x = Math.sin(time*sp)*amp; y= ti
