There is another ol' school solution - marks on focus ring. If you use primes on stationary camera you can easily put two marks and do focus racking. It's a little bit tricky with Canon glass though.

I suggest latest version 5DtoRGB. Don't forget to use rec.709 matrix to transcode files from Canon 5D Mark III. MPEG Streamclip would be my last choice which I'd resort to if everything else failed. P

Ingest footage thru L&T utility (watch out for reel and clip names), relink media on your timeline to Prores files, change sequence settings to prores compressor. Check the edits for minor alterations

I don't know why you ran into this problem. I can transcode files thru L&T w o hassle in FCP7. Try 5DtoRGB and don't forget to copy .THM files. It works just fine as well. Sony PMW-EX3, Canon Mark II

Since FCP7 is 32-bit application it can't utilize more than 4 GB of RAM. To add insult to injury, it uses around 2.5 GB because 1.5 GB are being used by FCS mainframe. This is how you end up being out

If you're happened to have Adobe AF, Premiere, or Flash you can utilize Media Encoder. It's well known for loading all cpu cores up to 100%. I don't think Toast is a good route to convert files. Sony
