Link position to a layer on a different comp, getting the wrong value
by David Cabestany 7 months ago
I have two text layers, each on a separate comp. I tried linking their positions using an expression so when I move one the other gets updated automatically. I have no animation in neither layer, no k

Does the target layer have a parent If that's the case try changing your expression to this: toWorld(comp("innocent").layer("innocent").transform.position)
Animated Number equals Scale Value with Wiggle
by Scott Green 8 months ago
I'm changing the scale of a simple shape using the uniform wiggle expression w = wiggle(5,5); w 0 ,w 0 I'd like to animate a number that shows the scale value ie. the number displays "100%" when the s

Create a text layer and add the following expression to it's Source Text (.toFixed(2) sets the decimals to 2 digits): thisComp.layer("Shape Layer 1").transform.scale 0 .toFixed(2)
I'm Stuck-Missing Files?

It seems like some of the footage you purchased are missing in After Effects project. Template makers generally pre-render the effects like particles and flares to compensate the missing effects. Chec
Position A = 0%, Position B = 100%
by Ryan Hauser 8 months ago
Hello! I'm wondering if there's any way, with expressions, to set something's position based on a percent. Here's an example pseudo code for what I'm looking for : Position 0% = 0,0; Position 100% = 1

I did something similar to this before: https: forums.creativecow.net thread 227 34811 The idea there is the same but it can also go beyond the weight limit. Keep in mind that I used 0-1 as weight not

I divided the position difference by 3 for the even spacing. changing it according to your ratio should work.
Animate opacity using data in text file

Here's an example: Pick-whip your solid layer's opacity to the text layer's Source Text property to change *thisComp.layer("source").text.sourceText* values = thisComp.layer("source").text.s
Video Appears Stretched on IMPORT to AE
by Michael Dominic 9 months ago
I have a video that is Apple ProRes 422, 720 480 (640 480 Actual). It appears correctly in QT but when brought into AE it wants to behave as 720 480 not 640 480, so it is stretched horizontally. When

Sounds like a Pixel Aspect Ratio problem. And make sure you toggle the pixel aspect ratio on viewport:
Mask Feather Tool after keyframing

I keyframed a mask roto now i want to add a mask feather with the mask feather tool. Is there a way to apply the feather and have it carry over through all the keframes I've already made
Re: Mask Feather Tool after keyframing

If you're using the mask feather tool and not the feather property of the mask then I don't think there is an easy way to add the feather to all the keyframes..

You can add multiple text animators for position and move each letter separately. You need to change range unit to index and modify the start end values to the letter you want to change (1 and 2 for t

Search for "motion track tutorials". After you get your camera movement in After Effects just align your 3D shape layer with the section.

If you just need the center point of 2 Null Objects: n1 = thisComp.layer("Null 1").transform.position; n2 = thisComp.layer("Null 2").transform.position; pX = (n1 0 + n2 0 ) 2; pY = (n1 1 + n2 1 ) 2; p

If you're trying to assign the distance in Z-axis only, add " 2 " to your camera position too. You might need to control the Min Max values for the thickness tough. p1 = thisLayer.parent.position 2 ;
