Not sure if anyone in here has a PXW-Z280, but i'm battling trying to get clean pictures. There's so much grain in the pictures - especially faces - there's no softening at all. I rarely use gain, use

For years I have worked with FCP 6 on my quad G5 with 3gb ram. This year I bought a 2009 Mac Pro 4,1 quad core and 16gb ram... with the idea of installing Premiere pro CC. I also put FCP 7 on it. What

FCP 6 - ProRes422HQ clamping whites
by Ed Mellnik 4 years ago
Never realized this was happening on other projects. EX1 footage on the time line - render to prores422hq and the hot whites are clamped and killing detail. Ran a filter to bring down the whites to 10
Re: FCP 6 - ProRes422HQ clamping whites

Thanks for the response. Very helpful. Since I need 422 prores it looks like I can "create quicktime movie" and get my prores as long as I have Prores 422 in the compressor field in sequence settings.

by Shawn Marshall 8 years ago
I'm evaluating Premiere Pro CS6 to see if I want to use it as a replacement for FCP. We mainly do motion graphics, so my editing mainly consists of assembling chunks of renders and our reels, usually

Here it is 2016. Comparing my Ex1 footage rendered as ProRes422HQ in Premiere Pro and then rendering the same footage in FCP and their is a big difference in quality. The PRoRes rendered in FCP looks
quadcore nehalem work ok for Premiere Pro?
by Ed Mellnik 5 years ago
I am about to buy a 2009 mac pro and was hoping that a quad core with 8gigs ram would be enough for editing. ANy comments would be appreciated. Ed EMA VIDEO Portland Oregon emellnik@emavideo.com

Thanks. No one has commented on just a quad core...so if I am reading this right the amount of ram is more important I am seeing 4 8 and 12 core 2009 Mac Pros and of course understand that more is bet
Getting Vegas 10 to see FCP6 rendered files

MxR adaptor problems for EX1

I have been blaming SD cards for problems with corrupt files but seem to have have narrowed the problem down to the MxR adapters. I sent one back and they sent me a new and improved one but still havi

Back to Vegas from FCP

heat in the EX1
by Ed Mellnik 10 years ago
I wonder what your serial number is. I am beginning to think the older first Ex1s might have a heat problem. It seems like everyone does not have the problem. Seems much worse when using the adapters
Re: heat in the EX1

SxS cards get hot too. When you write large amounts of data to memory devices they will get hot. Most electronic components don't fail until they get to over 100c so your going to burn your fingers on
XDCAM Mac workflow using Clip Browser

Totally new to XDCAM. So far I've only shot 720p30 60 for a slowmo-intense project at hand, but expect 1080i will be the norm. This is using a new EX3 and importing via XDCAM Transfer has worked great
