As far as bringing the media, you're on your own. Same as you would be in an NLE or a compositing program. The project is your work, not the media it's done on.

I think what you need to do is uncheck us local grades and check the match media pool to master timeline options, before import and conform. Also make sure your clips aren't being treated as subclips
