At this stage there is no way at all to hand a project from FCP X to an editor on any other system (including FCP 7). No one is upset about the professional product being sold to at a consumer price -

Oh sorry - you are exactly correct, I forgot about the differences between 64bit handling in OS X and Windows... You can run Avid in Windows 7 64bit (even in bootcamp) but OS X does things differently

AFAIK assuming a static frame size based on 100mb s for the standard rate would be fairly accurate. ie. 1080i60 100mbs 1080p24 80mbs 720p60 100mbs 720p24 40 mbs etc.

I'm not 100% on this because I haven't done it for a long long time in FCP, but I believe you'd edit as normal in a 16:9 sequence, and then drag the finished sequence into a 4:3 NTSC DV comp. I guess

I'm in with the others - H.264 is a pretty good delivery codec, but it's very lossy. I'd certainly never use it for that purpose.

Once you've made the effect you want you can save the effect to a bin (this is true of all Avid effects) and then drop it on to one or more clips as needed.
