Hi Graham, I'm sorry I wasn't very clear. My Dell XPS PC didn't come with firewire so I purchased and installed a firewire card. A firewire cable connects the inputs to that card (in the back of the P

Problem solved! I was unable to download the 1394 Firewire chipset legacy driver so contacted Microsoft tech support. They had me upgrade Windows 10 to the current "Anniversary Edition" and also updat
How do you encode for You Tube?

Shoot the G10 at the max bitrate, and progressive, in the setup on the camera. Use the Match Media button in the Vegas project settings, or match the project settings to the media being shot. "Media I

I'm having a problem rendering files in Vegas 11.
Video was shot on a Canon Vixia HF G10 NTSC.
The specs say movies are recorded in :
AVCHD Video compression MPEG-4 AVC/H.264
Video signal Configuration 1080/60i Stereo Dolby AC3
When I click on the clip for video properties on the timeline I see:
Type: MPEG-2 Transport Stream
Video: 29.970 fps interlaced, 1920x1080x12, AVC
Audio: 48,000 Hz, Stereo, Dolby AC-3

I set up the project with this template:
HD 1080-60i (1920 X 1080 29.970fps)
Pixel format 8-bit

When I go to "Render as" - with "Match project settings" checked, I get very few choices. For instance I can't render in MPEG-4.and when I render in Quicktime 7 with the only option available, (HD 1080-60, Avid DNXHD 145 8 bit) The rendered file has audio but no video, just a black screen.

Is there something wrong with the way I'm setting up the Project Properties? I want to render so a friend can edit the video files on their MAC or so I can put the files on my You Tube channel.

Help will be most appreciated!

Thanks,
Diane

I've just set up a new PC, a Dell with an Intel i5 processor, 12G RAM using windows 8.1. I loaded Vegas 11 and am unable to capture video from my Canon VIXIA camcorder. The pop up window does not recognize a connected device but I do see it in windows explorer.
I never had this problem with my last setup using Vegas 10 and an old PC.
Advice gratefully accepted!

Diane, I'm glad to hear that you were able to get it working. As far as old machines are concerned, my home computer is at least 5 years old as well, still running XP Pro and I can read iPad and iPhon
