Maybe the tide has turned, however FCPX is a well capable editor and is hear to stay. It truly works wonderfully for our production and don't every seeing us pay per month for an edit suite.

I've actually done quite a bit of editing over remote desktop with FCPX from about 1,000 miles away. I know not the same but I can see how it could work without a huge investment.

We just updated our Mac Pro file server to Mavericks and are getting poor read speeds over AFP. Went from 110mb s to 20mb s. Write speed is fine and the internal read and write speeds are fine. Tested

There are markers you can place in your motion project which can be edited (by right-clicking). If you set them to Build IN OUT mandatory, you can force FCPX to always play those particular frames reg

It is CBR already you don't need to change anything. There are 3 flavors of IMX- 50,40, & 30 mb s.

This might make the Mac Mini worth looking at for sever applications now. Still doesn't fully replace an Xserve but you could get 3-4 Mac Minis into a cluster for the price of 1 Mac Pro.

Not a 100% sure what your looking for but you might want to take a look at the Telestream Pipeline encoder. It can handle 2 streams of HD or there's a 4 stream SD version that hooks up to your Mac Pro
