Yes, transcode to ProRes or another codec that is standard. A lot of people like 50mbit XDCAM (MXF OP1A) too which is about half of ProRes in size but still good looking.

I would only add to Dave's comment that you can save this as a batch process command. So after creating the actions needed to resize, you can apply to all clips in a folder.

This is a known bug when importing XML into Premiere Pro CS6. The audio is there, but if it has no keyframes, the audio is interpreted at minus infinity level. in order to fix this, you either need to
