WD RED 4TB NAS Drives as media drives- spindle speed issues
by David Lewis 5 years ago
I recently purchased a couple of WD RED 3.0 4TB internal hard drives. My initial goal was to use them as back-up storage drives for other projects. But my goal has been modified to use them as media d
MTS files to ProRes422(HQ)
by David Lewis 6 years ago
I've encountered a weird phenomena and am looking for a solution. I have been given an interview with an AVCHD MTS codec. The footage is shot in 50fps (a PAL project) 1920X1080. Apparently the camera
Re: MTS files to ProRes422(HQ)

Today I took the MTS footage and converted it to Apple Prores 422(HQ) via "Wondershare Video Converter". I'm not sure how professional this converter is, but seems to be doing the trick (in the middle

I've just returned from shooting with a C300 and have the files all downloaded and backed up. I have downloaded and imported the AMA for MFX and the recommended AMA plug-in for the Canon C300 to my co

Shane: Just spent a few minutes downloading most all the AMAs (except Arri... which required a registered user), and as usual your suggestion worked perfectly. I appreciate the help. Nice when things
Exporting HD project w/o line factoring
by David Lewis 6 years ago
I've just finished a "personal" video project shot on my home HD (AVCHD codec) camera and imported AMA and transcoded to DNxHD 185. Very simple edit, but when I exported it as an H264 MOV I get all th

Thank you Pat. Your advice sounds good. I now recall someone else once told me best to always export "as is" from the edit system (AVID and FCP, I believe). Then, as you noted, work with the media fil
Question for a simple effect

I am trying to create a "highlight" circle around an image, where the rest of the photo would fade to a greyed blackened subdued background. I'm having trouble creating this! What I ended up doing was

Hi James! Excellent help, thank you. Just watched the tutorial. I never used this FX before and I'm sure it has a LOT of applications. I'll work with it and no doubt it will resolve the issue. I appre

audio panning left right

I need to split my audio tracks. I need VO SYNC FX on CH1 and Music on CH2. Since the music is stereo, I am having trouble trying to make it "mono", and get it to CH2. When I use the Pan option, is si

Hi David: I found it and (of course) it works perfectly. Thanks for guiding me through that. For some reason I didn't see that line in the drop-down menu (guess I "didn't look hard enough"... as I'm o
speeding up a slow interview
by David Lewis 8 years ago
As I create the skeleton of a documentary I'm editing, I've come across a very good interviewee, yet at times he is VERY slow. I recall there is a way to dynamically speed up the sound and picture, wh

All good points. This is the 5th episode in a series, which by the way, has some foreign experts (professors) speaking in English, which is not their native tongues, so I've had a lot of "uhms" and "a
Completely Uninstall to Reinstall

Somehow this morning while trying "clean up" some files on my Macbook pro, I in my very finite-wisdom caused some type of error that will now not let me open FCP 7. As it opens it gets to a message ab

Gradient color box with lower thirds titles

I am trying to create a Lower Thirds title with a background box (blue in color) for the titles. I have found information on how to create the gradient box... solid blue on the left and turning opaque
Re: Gradient color box with lower thirds titles

Hello Cody: Thanks for your reply. I'll look into "Motion" for the gradient bar. I'm not too familiar with it, but I'm sure with some patience I'll be able to create what I need. As for the titling...

I'm creating lower third titles for an HD DNx185 project. I discovered that as I created these titles I inadvertantly saved them in DNx120. Will this cause a significant problem?
David Lewis 9 years ago
I've completed an HD project, edited in DNxHD... Looks terrific.
Shot 720p / 50fps (PAL project) at 1280X720.

The client wants to put these several clips (2-3 minutes) on a Disk-on-key so it can be played on any computer with Windows Media Player.

I've tried exporting the clips as AVIs and they play wonderfully on my computer, but on my test desktop (windows media player 11) it gets kinda jerky.

I'm assuming the best export would be to Window Media Player, but there are so many options I don't know how to navigate this to get the right export.

Any suggestions?
