by David J. Smolar 1 year ago
Hi all. Looking for advice. I just purchased a Mac Mini 2018 to replace my Mac Pro tower 2008 for my video editing work. So...I'm having a USB traffic issue. Most of my drives and devices are USB but

Thunderbolt 3 ports *are* USB ports too. You have 6 USB ports on the mini. I don't know how many busses there are, but USB 3 has enough bandwidth that an audio interface and a camera won't saturate.

Avid MC Timewarp: when does it not apply?
by David J. Smolar 5 years ago
Hi all, and forgive me if you've heard this before. I'm working in Avid MC at a new place that often throws me anamorphic video for me to reversion. My sequences are 30i 16:9, so Avid automatically "c

Thanks so much, John. I'll find out from my boss if he approves that workflow. He might say that transcoding every file will fill up the drives too fast, but who knows. David J. Smolar Preditor dsmola

For around $50 you can snag a used Roxio VHS to DVD usb capture device off eBay. The sotware is useless, and the video capture is pretty poor quality but for a quick and inexpensive audio capture it s
TOSLINK to HD/SDI for 5.1?

As Mr. Groom said, it sounds like you need to embed the audio into the SDI stream. There are several vendors of devices to do this. For example the Blackmagic-Design Mini Converter Audio to SDI - $495
Export EDL as XML from FCP and into Premiere?

Why not just open the FCP7 project file directly in Pr Many have reported success with this approach. Making an EDL and then converting to XML will throw away a lot of information from the project and

Andy, you're right. I just woke up and realized that I'd split this file into 3 parts by taking the original file, trimming it down, and saving a copy of that as 'part 1', then taking the original, tr
HD to SD in FCP
by David J. Smolar 10 years ago
Hi all. Quick question. Cut a music video using HD footage. Final output will be to DVCAM tape, so result needs to be 720x480. I've cut the thing in FCP in a simple, NTSC 720x480 timeline and, of cour
Re: HD to SD in FCP
